Light Railway Tearoom and Cafe, Hythe

A popular stop for cyclists.

The Light Railway Tearoom and Cafe, Hythe.

The station at Hythe is on the banks of the Royal Military Canal, which runs with the line as the train approaches the terminus.

The ‘Light Railway Café’ serves a range of hot and cold food and beverages overlooking the Royal Military Canal, a popular stop for cyclists.

Situated next to the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway Station, which is at one end of the Hythe-Dungeness Miniature  Railway Line. It may not look too promising from the outside but inside is a well preserved slice of particular English atmosphere – the railway cafe. Largely unchanged since the 1950s, this is a classic cafe with a proper tea urn. With yellow Formica tables, bonded seats, and a welcome respite from the typical British weather.

Good car parking facilities are to be found at Hythe along with a well-stocked railway shop selling RH&DR souvenirs, railway books and publications, toys, gifts and confectionery. The platforms are covered and passengers can wait in the booking hall. This is also where the disabled toilet facilities are located.
